Malignus will not launch as a finished 1.0 game. It enters Steam Early Access on November 13, 2026 for $19.99 USD, with the developer planning roughly a year of monthly updates before a full release priced at $29.99.
That is a standard Early Access structure, but the details matter. Mossbomb has been unusually specific about what the current build contains and how long it intends to stay in Early Access. It has also been clear that buyers are paying for an unfinished game.
“Malignus is fully playable today. Every feature on this page is in the game.”
That quote is the developer's description of the current build, not an independent quality guarantee. “Fully playable” can still mean bugs, balance swings and systems that change after launch.
Confirmed plan
Early Access date
November 13, 2026
Developer's official site. Steam displays November 12 in some regions.
Early Access price
$19.99 USD
Regional pricing may differ. Price may rise at 1.0.
Planned 1.0 price
$29.99 USD
Mossbomb's stated plan, not a guarantee.
Update cadence
Monthly, about one year
Mossbomb plans a steady monthly schedule during Early Access.
Workshop
During Early Access
Not available at launch. Mossbomb plans Steam Workshop support during Early Access.
Platform
Windows PC (Steam)
No Mac, Linux or console version has been announced.
The price commitment has one clear benefit: Mossbomb says players who buy during Early Access keep the game and every update at no extra cost. The planned increase to $29.99 applies to new buyers after 1.0, not to existing Early Access owners.
What is in the current build
The developer's Early Access description lists six monster races, four Bosses, wired traps, invasions, prisoners, overworld raids, more than 30 creatures, four schools of magic and 2–4 player co-op. The free demo is described as containing everything in the current game.
| System | Current build status | What to expect after launch |
|---|---|---|
| Bosses | Four selectable Bosses with levels and upgrade points. | Balance and potentially new upgrades; the full trees are not all public. |
| Minions | Six races, six stats, traits, relationships, grumbles, duties and behavior settings. | Balance and quality-of-life changes are likely; specifics are unannounced. |
| Traps | Ten mechanisms and five trigger families visible in the UI. | New traps or wiring options are possible but not promised. |
| Magic | Four schools, tiers, rites and the Gravecaller altar. | More spells or rites may arrive; the current counts are current-build snapshots. |
| Adventurers | Six races, ten classes, 40+ traits, prisoners and interrogation. | Balance and new traits are possible; no content roadmap is published. |
| Co-op | 2–4 players, online and LAN, one shared dungeon. | Stability work is likely; dedicated servers and crossplay are unannounced. |
| Workshop | Not available at launch. | Planned during Early Access. |
“Fully playable” is not “finished”
Early Access builds are expected to have bugs and balance changes. Mossbomb's own store text says to expect some bugs while the team polishes. If that would ruin your experience, wait for 1.0 or try the demo first.
Workshop and mods
Steam Workshop support is planned during Early Access, not at launch. That means the game will ship without the mod-sharing infrastructure described in its feature list. Mossbomb has not published a date, a feature scope for the Workshop or a modding API description.
The current build is not advertised as moddable. Do not buy on the assumption that Workshop content will be available on day one.
What is not promised
- A 1.0 date. “About one year” is a plan, not a deadline.
- A fixed content roadmap. Mossbomb says it will spend Early Access on stability, balance and features players ask for. That is not a list of features.
- A Workshop date. Only “during Early Access.”
- Crossplay, dedicated servers or console versions. None has been announced. The game is Windows PC only.
- Demo save transfer. Not announced.
- A lower launch price. The announced Early Access price is $19.99; there is no confirmed launch discount.
Is it worth buying now?
Buy now if you want to participate in the beta process, you are comfortable with an unfinished game, and the current feature set is already the game you want to play. The demo makes that decision easier: it is free, it is the current build, and Mossbomb says nothing is locked because it is a demo.
Wait if you need a stable first impression, a complete mod scene, or a guarantee that the roadmap will deliver specific features. Early Access is a funding and feedback model, not a pre-order discount with a finished game attached.
